Recently, a regulation regarding the participation of health insurance in the costs of assisted reproduction treatments in Iceland came into effect. This regulation covers in vitro fertilization (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and intrauterine insemination (IUI).
The reimbursement from health insurance is as follows:
General:
1st treatment (IVF, ICSI, IUI): up to 150.000 ISK
2nd–4th treatment (IVF, ICSI, IUI): up to 400.000 ISK
Treatment for malignant disease (impending infertility issues):
1st–4th treatment (IVF, ICSI, IUI): up to 400.000 ISK
Egg retrieval, IVF/ICSI, and embryo freezing: up to 300.000 ISK
Embryo transfer from frozen embryos: up to 100.000 ISK*
Egg freezing: up to 250.000 ISK
Thawing eggs, fertilization, and embryo transfer: up to 200.000 ISK*
Testicular sperm aspiration (TESA): up to 85.000 ISK
Sperm freezing: up to 25.000 ISK
Storage fee for frozen gametes/embryos: up to 25.000 ISK per year
