Why donate your eggs?

For many people, being unable to start a family on their own is one of life's most difficult challenges. By donating your eggs, you can help someone fulfill their greatest wish – to become a parent.

Since January 2019, private IVF clinics in Sweden have been permitted to perform treatments with donated eggs, but the shortage of donors remains significant. Many couples and single individuals are waiting for a donor who can give them the chance of a family.

As an egg donor, you perform one of the most generous acts one can do for a fellow human being. It's a process that takes place in a safe and professional setting, with support every step of the way.

Do you want to be the one who makes a difference? Your donation could become someone's happiest day.

Testing For Egg Donation

One advantage of becoming an egg donor is that you receive a thorough health check, which means that in addition to a general medical examination, you are tested for infectious diseases and the most common hereditary genetic diseases. A fertility analysis is also performed, and you then receive an estimate of your reproductive ability. This is of course free of charge.

Step-by-Step Egg Donation Process

The process in short:

Step 1:

Regulations for Becoming a Egg Donor

All our egg donors are screened at Livio clinics via Livio Egg and Spermbank. Our donors have undergone thorough medical screening to ensure that they are healthy and have no hereditary diseases in their family/lineage. They have good egg reserves and are between 23 and 35 years old.

A prospective donor is tested for several infectious diseases (including HIV 1 and 2, hepatitis B and C, HTLV I/II and syphilis) and a genetic screening is performed to check that the donor is not a carrier of any unusual hereditary diseases.

A donor may give birth to children in a maximum of six families, and possibly siblings. In Sweden, it is only permitted to be a donor for altruistic reasons, but a small financial compensation is paid to the donor to cover travel costs and lost income.

To be able to donate eggs you need to:

  • Be healthy
  • Be between 23 and 35 years old
  • Preferably have given birth to your own children, but it is not a requirement
  • Have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of no more than 32 (Calculate your BMI here)
  • Be a non-smoker, do not use snus

Reimbursement for Egg Donation

According to Swedish law, donation must be altruistic, meaning that you as a donor give of your own free will, with the aim of helping someone else and without financial gain. The financial compensation you receive is intended to compensate for your travel time and any lost income when visiting and traveling to the clinic. As an egg donor, you are compensated with 12,100 SEK for each donation to Livio Egg Bank.
