Who can become an egg donor?

To become an egg donor, you need to meet certain medical and health requirements. You also need to undergo a thorough assessment before you can be approved as a donor. You need to:

  • Be between 23 and 35 years old.

  • Be physically and mentally healthy and have no known hereditary or serious diseases.

  • Have a BMI of 32 or below.

  • Have been free from smoking and snus for at least three months before treatment begins.

  • Preferably have had children of your own, although this is not a requirement.

As part of the assessment, you will be asked about your health, personal circumstances and reasons for wanting to donate your eggs. We will also assess your psychological and social situation. The purpose is to ensure that donation feels right for you and that you are in a good position to undergo the treatment.

What do I receive as a donor?

Donation must, under Swedish law, be altruistic. This means that you donate voluntarily, with the aim of helping someone else and without financial gain.

The financial compensation you receive is intended to compensate you for travel time and any loss of income associated with visits to and travel to the clinic.

As an egg donor, you receive SEK 12,100 in compensation for each donation.
